'Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management.
Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises, has been chosen on Oct 23 for the prestigious 'Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management.' President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will present the award to Mr Mittal at a function in Rashtrapathi Bhavan on December 15. Mr Mittal has contributed significantly for upliftment of rural poor as also for bringing academic excellence with Indian ethos.

The Bhatnagar Prizes are given to scientists below 45 years of age, for their outstanding scientific contributions made primarily in India during the last 5 years preceding the year of the Prize. The SSB Prize comprises a citation, a plaque and a cash award of Rs.5,00,000/- (Rupees five lakh only), and are given to the recipients by the Prime Minister of India.

Mannu Bhandari has been honoured with the award Vyas Samman, 2008 for her novel “Ek
Kahani Yah Bhi”. The award consists of a citation and prize money of Rs 2.55 lakh.
Renowned playback singer Manna Dey received the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award for the year 2007. The 90-year-old singer is one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema.He ruled the playback music scene from the 1950s to the 1970s.
